Project 3 - Through the Lens

Module 3

This project looks at the idea of self-awareness, and telling the story of oneself through objects.

Activity 1

Each shape and colour represents a different part of me and my daily life, an abstract portrait I kept track of how my games went playing a game; looking at wether my team won or lost and wether i was the MVP or not. This is a visual representation of the legth of my school days, and how many classes I have in them. kept track of my driving habits over several days, and recorded it visually I separated the segments based on what car I was using and it made an interesting visual change. Here I counted out each of my friends and how i got to know them, and grouped them by colour. Using the 1st tutorial, I made a similar portrait looking at different aspects of me, including how many siblings, personality type, and prefered time of day. To put it into blazeface, I separated each object and put them into layers placing the layers' images into the code did not work perfectly, but managed to show most objects well Messing around with the order of the layers and the positioning of the code made for another interesting portrait Here I measured the level of energy I had in a day. I grouped the time by hours and the colours represent different activities throughout the day.

Activity 2

This object is a keychain that my grandmothe gave to me when I first started college a few years ago he was difficult to scan due to hhis very flat nature, so I hoisted him a bit off the ground The scans kept resulting in large gaps in the bottom and in the fur, hoisting him with fishing wire seemed to help with that I tried to bring him higher, but the wire made him very shaky and difficult to accurately scan eventually with lots of patience, he stabilized enough to get a scan of him, but the target plate was too far below for it to pick up I tried to do a scan where his arms were lifted with plastic triangles but they seemed to merge him more with the target The arms were a pain to scan without huge holes so I ended up using the scan from him strung up to finish the object. placing hte exported file into Meshmixer, I cropped the excess materals until it was just the monke to a relatively successful effect. This object is a plushie that my friend bought for me, it's a pokemon that has a special place in my heart and history with them His round shape and simple design made him a solid choice to try and scan. The first scan ended up cutting a hole in his butt, which for some reason became a common issue with each scan. Eventually after lots of trial and error, more light was needed to make him show up better in the scan both underneath and his posterior. a few scans after that I got lucky with a complete scan that captured most of his features, but his stomach was molded into the target. Importing him into meshmixer let me free him from his shackles and clean him up. I then brought that version into C4D to continue to refine his posterior and stomach as they needed to be closed properly. after fixing him up, his texture map looked off, so I remeshed until i got it right. After lots of work, he was about as close as he was going to get to the real thing. An interesting thing, when bringing him from meshmixer and into C4D, his textures failed to load creating an interesting visual effect i would use for inspiration later. As a third object, I scanned a bottle of Tylenol medicine The scan turned out well, considering the restraints of the hardware scanning reflective surfaces. This becomes apparent when viewing the shiny parts of the model, where severe distortion is clearly visible.

Reflexive Workshop 1 & 2

This portrait describes how your self image is built throught the interactions with others. Self awareness can start with a personality test to see what kind of person you are and how you interact with others It lnot only relies on how others see you, but how you see yourself. Understanding the self and who you think of yourself is half the equation.

Final Project 3 Design

The final design of 'Through the Lens' showcases a bust of myself, with a Pixelated Turtwig on my shoulder and a camera replacing and obscuring part of my head.
